Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are a Title One school. Seventy-eight percent of our students receive a free lunch each day. Free breakfast is available for all students in our district every morning.
My class looks like a mini United Nations.
My students are wonderful. They are bright, kind, and hard-working. Each day is spent working to meet or exceed our individual academic goals and living up to the responsibilities of being leaders in our school community.
My Project
Academic rigor at school is vital for all students, especially for those who live in poverty. Our school day is packed with learning. Every minute counts. Balancing rigor with fun and the arts if vital to the healthy development of young children.
I am committed to giving my students a chance to express themselves artistically each week.
The requested supplies will be used during our weekly art lessons which are designed to compliment our social studies and science units. For example, during our rainforest unit, students will use water colors to paint tropical flowers and wildlife, and advance student' understandings of this extraordinary ecosystem. The drying rack will allow our works of art to cure in our classroom. (Presently, art work dries outside our classroom on the hallway floor and runs the risk of being stepped upon. )
