My students are creative, reflective and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My classroom is truly a community where my students feel loved, safe and accepted.
I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each students' needs are met, right where they are!
My Project
Flexible seating is the first step towards independent learning. It allows children to make choices alone, rather than being told what to do, or in this case where to sit. Giving children a choice unlocks the ability for them to solve problems which, in turn, will make children more proactive learners when they are older. This first step of allowing flexible seating unlocks collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking among children.
"SITTING STILL" ISN'T ALWAYS A GOOD THING.
Children need to move.
My classroom offers a variety of seating choices (standing tables, floor tables, stools, lap desks, etc). Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Stability ball chairs would be a great addition to our classroom!
