Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a wonderful group of students this year. They are so resilient! They have survived a hurricane that destroyed so many of their houses and left many of them living in different places. They have had to start school late due to Hurricane Harvey. They have also made a move in March to a different classroom due to construction. All of those things are hard on children. These children have had to go through all three in one school year.
My students are my champions!
They have had so many hardships but keep going. They are so excited to come to school each day and learn all they can learn. I am so proud of them.
My Project
It will be so great to have my students sitting all together on a nice durable carpet especially on cold days. We can use our dry erase lapboards as we work together. I will finally have a bulletin board large enough to hold a word wall where we can post our high-frequency words.
Teachers spend so much of their own money buying supplies for their classes.
These big ticket items are things that we cannot usually afford to purchase. I cannot wait to see the look on my students' faces when they see what has been purchased for us by someone we do not even know. So many of our students still have houses that have not been renovated since the destruction of Hurricane Harvey. It will be so wonderful to have our classroom be their place of comfort.
