My students need 3 iPads to be added to the two we have, making it possible to use as a small group activity that includes all children throughout the week.
My students are children 3 to 5 years old most being their first experience in a structured situation of twenty children. They are from many different socioeconomic backgrounds. Each one has a story to tell.
Technology is a big part of children's lives today.
Having technology in our room would give us the capability to use during our table time and at least once a week we would be able to have all children work on the program. We currently have two iPads for 20 children to use. These iPads are used with a program called Hatch that assess children as they play the learning games. Their progress is sent directly to our assessment program. This program enables us to get observations on areas that are hard to get in the classroom situation.
We are a state funded grant program in a rural community with 70% of our children are low-income. Much of our funding goes to transportation since our children come from three different towns.
My Project
Technology is a big part of children's lives in this day and age. Having technology that is directly linked to our assessment program will give us opportunity to assess some other area that are not being assessed on the iPad program. It will be helpful to track growth in the child's work over a period of time. The program can be programed to assess specific things that children need to work on giving them extra practice in those areas.
Having more iPads in the room will allow all children to have time on the learning app that is directly connected to our assessment app Teaching StrategIes Gold.
