My students need the least restrictive enviromant, therefore would benefit greatly if they had the ability to choose the type of seating that could help increase productivity.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from a low social economic area. They are starved for attention from anyone. They may have a lack of supervision at home and they often have disciplinary problems in a standardized classroom and a standardized desk. The freedom to move about freely will allow them to use up some energy on the balance board. The flexible seating would provide them the comfort to relax, tap their foot, roll about if needed and would make for a much more conducive learning environment.
My Project
The purpose of multi differentiated seating in the classroom is to release tension and anxiety while allowing the students to remain on task and focused. The balance balls will help the students who have a difficult time sitting still. These will enable students to either roll around or rock back and forth while they work without disturbing others. The balance boards will let the students release energy through their feet and legs without having to leave their seats or tapping loudly, causing disturbances in the classroom.
Giving the students a choice, even the simple choice of choosing the type of seat, will help them feel that they have some control of their learning.
