Throughout the day, I see 150 very different individuals, all trying to figure out where they fit in.
My middle schools math students are a diverse group, coming from various cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with various levels of learning comprehension.
A large part of each of my classes included students with various emotional, physical, mental, and medical challenges.
Many of my students are trying to learn how to manage all the changes to themselves, balance home and school, all while learning their role in society.
Over half of my students come from low income houses or homes where their parents and guardians struggle to make ends meet. In addition, I have a large group of students with ADHD or anxiety disorders that desperately need help to focus in math class, so I am asking for assistance with purchasing special bands to help the kids quietly "fidget" in their seats, helping them focus while not distracting other students.
School supplies, while important, do not always make the cut when household budgets are tight.
Things as basic as paper, pencils, folders aren't part of the shopping cart for the students.
In addition to my students not being able to provide their own supplies, they are unable to supply the requested materials to help teachers keep their classes stocked. I was also in the unique situation this year of not receiving the money to assist with stocking my classroom with basics, like paper, pencils, a working pencil sharpener (like the Stanley Bostitch Compact Desktop Pencil Sharpener I have requested), tissues, and cleaning supplies. In addition, we have received some chromebooks, so we need the wipes and air cans to keep them running properly! My classroom, and my students, are in need of all the basics since I am out!
My students and I would be exceptionally grateful for ANY of your assistance! Thank you!
