Giving Our Preschoolers a Head Start on Writing & Reading

My Students

As a teacher of a low-income Head Start/Pre-K class, my students are faced daily with all kinds of challenges. It is my goal to provide them with as many diverse choices as I can throughout my classroom. I want to enrich their minds and their lives in every way possible in the time they spend with me. I want them to see that their options are unlimited and they can truly reach for the stars. Oh, the places they will go!

My Project

Our preschoolers need materials to help with their handwriting skills and literacy skills to prepare them for Kindergarten. We currently are trying to update our handwriting center to add more inviting handwriting items, such as the magnetic alphabet tracers, to motivate them and encourage them to try to write. The sight word cards will also be a great add on to our handwriting center. The students can use the cards to help them learn new words as well as give them models for writing.

We try to help the preschoolers with emergent reading and writing skills to help them develop better communication skills that they will need in and out of the classroom.

Since, all students learn differently, having more than just pencil and paper is important.
