Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come in every morning ready for a hug and then breakfast. They love to tell me all about what they did the night before and here my stories. They are ready to get started on their day.
I work in a Title I school district in a small town in NC.
Our students are 100% free breakfast and lunch. We have several churches and local organizations that help our students throughout the year. We also have a food pantry and weekend bookbag meals.
I have a very diverse class. Several are on the Autistic Spectrum and many speak very limited English but that does not stop them from being ready to work hard. They all try very hard to do their best for me. I love them all and they are my kids!!
My Project
Time for Kids is a great way to introduce my students to what is going on in the world at a level they can understand. I can use the online resources with a whole group lesson. The single issues can be used in their centers in different areas of our curriculum.
Because we keep the issues from year to year, we are able to teach many different lessons according to the events in the world past and present.
For many of our students this is the only way they can experience the world. It helps introduce them to many current events in ways they can relate to.
Scholastic Storyworks gives the students unforgettable articles and stories in every genre with amazing resources for the teachers.
The Scholastic 100 words students need to know enriches them in both their reading and writing.
