I am a fourth grade teacher at a Title I school in NW Tennessee. I have anywhere from 20 to 24 students in my classroom. My students are made up of a diverse group with many needs. This project will help me meet their individual learning needs. My students include explorers, thinkers, problem solvers, and survivors.
Students are inspired to learn when given a variety of resources.
They come to me looking for and expecting an education that addresses their needs and will lead to success. I want to provide the world to my students, but can't. I do my job to the best of my abilities to give them what they need. I can fill their fourth grade year with opportunities - opportunities that may not give them the world but will give them as much of it as possible. I strongly believe in providing the technology that is needed to inspire them and to reinforce their learning experience.
My Project
It is my job to look for new learning tools to help students reach their academic potential. Laptops are used to facilitate learning throughout classrooms. I have three student computers the school has provided but I am trying to add laptops to my classroom to influence academic performance. Students need the technology to do research, create power points that highlight that information, and share the information with others.
My goal is to be able to give students options to dig deeper in their research, improve their learning, and make their learning experience more meaningful.
Laptops are very versatile tools that can make a difference in a lesson or to reinforce a concept just in a different way. They also can provide personalized instruction with the right software. Our school has provided us with IXL, Accelerated Reading, Education Galaxy, and a few more online learning tools, but without the technology, it is hard to lift student achievement, while enhancing student engagement and enthusiasm for learning.
