This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with a diverse population of language-impaired preschoolers. My students range in age from 3-5, and many are non verbal or minimally verbal. More than 90% of my students are English-language learners, and most are also very poor.

Life is tough for my students, but they are resilient.

They love to laugh, play, read and learn just like their peers, and working with them is a joy.

My students' disabilities range from articulatory disorders, to microencaphaly, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and general head injury. Their problems are complex, and I'm always wishing I could do more for them.

My Project

The field of speech pathology is broad and complex. We must be experts in speech, language, swallowing, and feeding. As I am currently working with nonverbal preschoolers, I need to acquire more specific skills in this area. With this training I can continue to hone my craft as my caseload grows in size and complexity.

The PROMPT training will enable me to make faster progress with some of my toughest cases.

These students have severe articulatory disorders, including apraxia of speech.

My students need specific hands-on prompting and cueing for which I am not currently trained. Please help me to help these struggling students.
