I work at a colony and my students are eager to learn new things! This is my fourth year at this particular colony! Unlike a mainstream student, my students do not get to experience things from the outside world. Normally when you walk into a classroom, you see technology everywhere. At my school, we are very limited on technology. We do implement a small about of internet, which allows my students to take accelerated reader quizzes, work on Google Classroom, Sum dog, and type to learn.
This year I would like a make a bigger impact on my students by incorporate more music in my classroom.
I would love to start teaching my students how to play simple instruments. Unfortunately my students do not get a traditional music class, but I have a lower classroom number so I can give them a chance to learn some music!
My Project
Each day on the colony is jam packed with activities! Unlike a mainstream school, we do not get a music class. I feel that music helps with memorization, emotional development, imagination, and much more. Every year we sing in a big Christmas Concert and Spring Concert. This year I would love to incorporate musical instruments. The recorders will be a great way for the students to interact with each other and work together to make music. Besides the recorders having a musical starter kit with different instruments will allow me to introduce other aspects of music to my students. The keyboard will make it easier for me to play along with the students instead of always having to find something on the computer.
Not only will these musical instruments play a big part in our concerts, they will also challenge my students in something new!
