My Students

Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written, and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day.

I work in a school of 500 students and 70% of them go home to a language other than English.

95% of our students receive free lunch. Most of my students only speak English at school and are very limited to the tools they need to be successful in school. My students work hard to not only learn the English language but to be proficient in their own as well. They come from all around the world, and every single one of them has their own story.

My Project

My 4th grade students often speak in soft tones and cannot be heard within the classroom. Extra noises, like air conditioning, can muffle the students' voices and make it an issue to be able to hear what they have to share in a discussion. The Qball is the perfect device that allows my students to use the microphone component and amplify what they have to day.

Making sure my students can be heard by everyone signals to them that what they have to say is important, that what they say matters.

If we had the Qball, students would pass the device, or even toss it (it's safe!) to each other and when they are ready to speak, it will amplify their voices so everyone can hear them.
