Mrs. Baham-James from Lacombe LA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students support with a graphic tablet that will help with their learning opportunities, because I want to do whatever possible to support their incredibly challenging distance learning.

I am a third grade Math teacher in a Title I school that is in a suburb of New Orleans with 90% free and reduced-price lunch, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face daily, and now the coronavirus pandemic, along with distance learning, I am looking to keep things positive while providing my students with fun and meaningful learning experiences. Just within my classroom one of my student's lost his mother and another student lost an uncle to COVID -19.
I work with wonderful students whose drive to learn and make sense of this world gives meaning to my life as a teacher.
Right now my students are at home doing their best to continue their learning. We have been out of school since March 13. I have been downloading math pages online and even going to my school leaving work in folders in front of the school for them to pick and complete. I am so proud of all of them, they continue to work hard.
With classes being abruptly transitioned to online distance learning a graphic tablet would allow me to not just assign my students work to complete on their own. I will be able to create videos of myself solving math problems as examples for them to follow or reference. The graphic tablet can be attached to my laptop and used in lieu of the whiteboard I normally employ during lectures.
The graphic tablet will keep my students engaged and motivated to learn.
It will make them feel that I am still there with them and supporting them as always. They will here my voice on videos, while watching me work problems on their computers. We could even have the option to do classes live using various online streaming networks.
