My students need a digital microscope and large monitor for easy viewing during large group activities. Real life science objects make learning opportunities authentic so they will leave lasting impressions on my students.
I teach in a Head Start classroom of 15 students who range in age, from 3-5 years old. Our program prides its self on providing quality preschool education while building strong relationships and partnering with our student's families.
My students are full of potential and I have the privilege of guiding them as they discover their surrounding world.
My students come from diverse family backgrounds. I have students from all over the globe in my classroom. This year our classroom represents three continents and my students hear their families speaking five different languages! Everyday when my students enter my classroom they are excited to learn new things and share their discoveries with each other. Because of their varied home languages I need to provide hands on materials and real life experiences to help them develop a foundation for learning.
I strive to instill a love of science and the natural world in my students. Helping to encourage curiosity and appreciation of other living things and the environment is crucial for our future generations.
My Project
My students need more meaningful materials for our science area. Our school recently adopted a new curriculum and we need materials that will relate directly to the new studies.
My students are so eager to see every detail while learning about their surroundings.
During our recent tree study we went on a nature walk and my students were so enthusiastic to use binoculars and magnifying lenses. Being able to bring specimens back to the classroom and view them with a digital microscope with guided discovery in the science area will help ensure that they can see all of the details and have the opportunity to revisit discoveries as more questions arise.
Children who are dual language learners need additional opportunities for language development. Having real life objects available to them throughout our classroom gives us opportunities to expand vocabulary and build a bridge between their Home Language and English.
