Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is filled with eager and ready to learn first graders! I have built and fostered an environment where kids can feel safe and loved. Our school is not located in the safest part of the city, but our school has provided a safe place for our kids. We have Saturday and Sunday recreational activities that provide a safe place for kids to play.
Although these children come from all aspects of life, it does not define who they can become.
I have students that come from shelters, programs, single family homes, farmworker parents and foster care. Although they have many obstacles in their life, receiving a proper education is not one of them.
My Project
In our class, we enjoy working in centers and small groups but sometimes we get unfocused by all the excitement going around us. My kids need these two room dividers to help them focused during our small group instruction.
These dividers will also be perfect for our cool down spot.
We are a social and emotional school and each classroom has to have a designated cool down spot. Would you be able to calm yourself down when you have 25 pairs of eyes looking at you? I dont think you would and neither would my kids. I believe these dividers will come in handy to help cool off a student and give them the privacy they need.
These dividers will also come in handy during testing time. First grade is filled with a lot of progress monitoring in reading. We assess every quarter for each kids reading level, basic phonics skills, sight words and fluency. It would create a better testing environment if we had these dividers. It would create a lower anxiety coming around testing time.
