My students need materials, such as magnetic mazes, numbers and letters, to enhance their fine motor skills so they are prepared for handwriting projects.
Help! We are Kindergarteners who are just learning how to correctly write letters, which our teacher says is really important if we want to become great writers! Some of us came into Kindergarten not even knowing how to hold a crayon...boy, we have a long way to go!
We have 22 students in our class and the most important thing that we have learned so far is that Kindergarten is exciting!
Learning how to print letters can be a frustrating experience for us. We do not have the fine motor skills that are needed to learn how to form our letters correctly. We need a lot of pre-writing experiences to help us develop our fine motor skills. Our teacher says that fine motor boards will help to strengthen the muscles in our hands so that holding a pencil and printing is easier for us. Due to limited funds & recent budget cuts within our district, Mrs. M is unable to buy these boards for us. She says that it is very important for her to provide this type of practice in a way that we don't become bored, frustrated, or resistant while learning correct letter formation and small muscle development.
My Project
These fine motor boards will help us master the skill of correct letter formation. We will have daily opportunities to use and practice our fine motor skills during our literacy work station time. During this time we are able to make our own choices that will benefit our individual level of learning (our teacher calls this differentiation.) It will be our job to use the fine motor boards to increase our eye-hand coordination, strengthen our fine motor skills and write our letters correctly. Our other jobs during this time consist of taking care of the materials, sharing with our friends and having fun while learning!
We are confident that we are going to become great writers!
