My Students

Listening to a story read-aloud is a treat for children. I love reading to the children daily. I also like to be able to give the children opportunities to hear exemplar texts across the genres. That's why we need a library of read-aloud books.

I teach 22 wonderfully diverse first graders in an urban setting.

Our diversity ranges from ethnic to economic to family diversity. We teach acceptance and learn in a peaceful environment. Our school is an inclusion school. That means every class serves children with special needs.

My Project

I am asking for read-aloud books across the genres. The Biography Set includes, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman and Eleanor Roosevelt. The students will listen to these stories when we learn about informational text. I also asked for a science set which includes Alligators, Pigs, Polar Bears and Owls. The children will listen to these stories when we study animals and do animal research projects. The Classroom Classic Set includes, Blueberries For Sal, Sheep in a Jeep and Where The Wild Things Are. I also asked for a Fairy Tales Set of books which include Henny Penny, Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. The Children will listen to these stories when we compare fairy tales and Folk Tales. I asked for Anansi the Spider, too. The different genres will be explored when the children are at the listening center during center time. This is when the students break up into groups of four. In this project I also asked for a set of Common Core Cards

By giving to this project you will ensure years of great stories being shared through read aloud.

The children will learn so much about books by listening to the different genres. Thank you for your consideration of my classroom project.
