This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a preschool teacher in a low-income and high poverty city public school. Daily challenges are nothing new to these kiddos. I would like to keep things simple and provide my students with a positive learning experience.

We are a Montessori school, and I am looking to create a loving, purposeful environment for them.

They like to move and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in less fortunate households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

My classroom is filled with 20 fun, loving 3 and 4 year olds. They amaze me every day. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a Montessori way, I hope to make these kiddos first experience with school a great one!

My Project

This year I have decided to get my certification as a yoga teacher as well as teaching yoga for kids with trauma. I would love to start each morning off with yoga.

With these yoga mats I can encourage self love, self care and promote mindfulness in each one of these kiddos each morning.

These yoga materials were selected with love and joy. They were selected to help make my classroom a more beautiful, calming space for my kiddos. They will be used daily to engage students, strengthen their concentration, give them tools to control their emotions, support gross motor skills, create cooperation in our classroom and strengthen our classroom community.

When new materials are introduced in our classroom their faces light up and I personally witness pure joy in the room. Social and emotional skills are something I work on daily as well as communication skills, with these lifestyle tools the students can be supported and grow! Yoga is an amazing tool to support a love for learning and a feeling of calmness.

This project will help me put the finishing touches to my peace area as well as bring new beauty to my classroom, beauty that some of my students may have never seen before.

I can't wait to see the joy on their faces when yoga is introduced to our classroom with your support this can be a reality!
