Hello! I am prek ABA teacher for students with disabilities - mostly autism. My students are amazing. They are all so unique and learn in such different ways. Many of them lack the ability to communicate but they each have a special way of expressing their needs; whether that be through technology, sign, or other forms of communication. They love to learn, love to play and love to experience new things. My students continue to improve every day and I am so grateful to have them in my class!
My Project
These materials will be paired with an 'independent activity schedule.'
Being that I work with students with Autism and students with limited communication skills, learning independence is extremely important.
We use very strict schedules in our classroom to make sure the students know what to expect. However, the schedule is typically teacher directed. These materials will allow me to introduce my preschoolers to a self-directed schedule which will grant them the ability to gain independence. Many of them struggle with decision making and need constant direction, so I would love to help them learn this necessary life skill.
My students also have such a variety of skills. Having these games and educational manipulatives for them to work with will help keep them motivated, engaged and excited to learn. It is sometimes difficult to motivate students in an ABA classroom setting and I know that these new materials will be just what we need to guarantee our class's success!
