Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are kindergarten English language learners. They are so eager to learn to speak, read and write English! The whole class was positively giddy when two of our boys who were new to the country in September started to speak in English. They love asking questions and finding out new words and phrases in English that many of us take for granted. Students who have been speaking English longer love to help! It is so exciting to see everyone’s enthusiasm!
My Project
My wish is that the books that I have carefully chosen will motivate my students to love and appreciate great literature, and therefore inspire them to become true readers and writers.
My intent is to read aloud some of the books to introduce a topic, some to further my ongoing character studies, and some to connect to my musicians and artists.
Listening to these books will hopefully make them want to read and explore more books on their own. Since my classroom is one of their first school experiences, I hope to solidify the love of learning for a lifetime!
