Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fourth grade teacher in a South Bronx public school. The fourth grade teachers at my school are working cooperatively to provide our students with similar educational experiences. Our belief is that all of the children should be provided with similar resources that will enhance their learning experiences. The children relish learning about new places, animals and experiences. Nonfiction is often one of the most difficult genres for children to comprehend. National Geographic Explorer magazine is written for children and contains several nonfiction articles that focus on science, social studies and geography. The children have enjoyed the old copies that I have in my classroom. I am requesting 65 subscriptions to National Geographic Explorer magazine. This will enable all of the fourth graders in my school to have a magazine each month to read. National Geographic Explorer will provide the students with nonfiction reading opportunities in science, social studies and geography. These magazine subscriptions will bolster the students' reading skills and writing skills. It will also broaden their knowledge of a variety of social studies, geography, and science topics. Your assistance in providing these students with the opportunity to master nonfiction literacy is greatly appreciated.
