My Project

The Tonie Box is an audio story-telling device that teaches language and literacy skills, attention and focus, and screen-free learning. It is designed for children ages 2-5 or students with developmental delays with the age equivalent of 2-5 years. It offers students an engaging and independent way to build cause and effect skills, a foundational skill for communication, while also building language and literacy skills. For students with a developmental delay who are preparing for a volunteer or paid position in the workforce after high school, the Tonie Box is a tool that can help build foundational communication skills for the workforce. A study conducted with 100 families in the UK and the US in 2023 revealed that after 12 weeks of use, there was a 60% increase in language comprehension, a 10% increase in verbal fluency in expressive language, and a 13% increase in vocabulary. Additionally, children increased reading-specific attention by 6%, and engagement with stories by 7%.
