My classroom family consists of just that, family. We have our ups and downs but we are always there for each other. As students in my class, they have a strong desire to learn, create, and apply their knowledge in all areas. They question what they see around them, they have a desire to explore, and they want to broaden their horizons.
My students can best be characterized as curious, adventurous explorers.
They come from a mixed variety of backgrounds; some speaking English as a second language, others coming from an impoverished home, and others are gifted. All of them live in a small, rural community; they have an immense desire to see all the world has to offer. As their teacher, I want to make their dreams become reality.
My Project
Having access to and utilizing a vast array of science materials fosters a greater understanding of science concepts. My students love science and they adore every opportunity to complete lab activities. Many students that experience hands on make better connections and stay engaged in learning. Plus, it has the added benefit of being FUN! Imagine walking into a classroom that was utilizing rock kits and fossils to discuss the rock cycle; or being able to discover how ocean currents are formed in your own classroom.
Hands on science can unleash a wealth of creativity and enhance the learning of all my students.
Students that are able to learn using a variety of science equipment will be better prepared not just for the science classrooms, but all cooperative classrooms. As their teacher, I want to provide my students with the possibilities of seeing science in action.
