Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
TMS serves a diverse population of students, many from what some consider to be 'tough' neighborhoods. 42% of our students come from low-income homes, 49% are students of color, and more than 15% are bilingual or English Language Learners. Many of our students come from communities that are commonly under-represented in the media.
They are eager to share their stories and have their voices heard!
A school podcast would give students this opportunity and learn valuable lessons about audio production!
My Project
I am requesting the necessary equipment to start a school podcast! I want to provide students with an authentic opportunity to express themselves creatively. They will learn hands-on skills in audio production and interviewing. It will also provide students an authentic experience to express their voice and writing and connect their ideas to the world outside of the classroom.
Students will have the opportunity to help create a biweekly podcast with varied student-written and produced segments.
Possible segments include: "Hot topics" around school, interviews with students, staff, and community members, sharing their own music, poetry, or other spoken word content, and comment on recent events. pop culture.
Your donations will go to providing students the following recording equipment:
-Audio-Technica ATR2100 Microphone: This mic was recommended for a basic setup by a recent edutopia article on how to start a school podcast.
-Pop filter & windscreen: To allow students to record quality audio while reducing wind, breathing sounds, and popping sounds.
-Acoustic Foam & Microphone Isolation Shield: To improve the acoustics of the small room we're turning into a recording studio.
-USB Audio Interface: This simple, easy-to-use preamp will allow students to record on multiple channels and bring together their audio!
-Suspension Boom Arm Stand for Microphone: To allow students to easily adjust the position of the microphone when in use.
