My name is Jessica Brown and I teach at an inner city school in Durham, NC. Many of my 385 students come from homes where money is spent on clothes and food, and little is left over for school supplies and enrichment items. Every year in the fourth and fifth grades, I teach the students to play recorders. Luckily, it is an inexpensive instrument and most students can afford the few dollars it costs to buy one of their own. However, for those deserving students who can not afford even that small amount, I would like to be able to offer them a free recorder to take home, learn to play, and cherish as their first instrument. I am asking for your help in purchasing 60 recorders (enough for three whole classrooms.) With your help, these students won't have to face the shame of having to play one of the school's sterilized instruments. In addition, they will have an instrument of their very own. Thank you in advance for your generous heart and patronage of the arts.
