Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in a Dual Language (English & Chinese) program in which they receive instruction in both languages. One third of our class are English language learners who have limited access to English learning resources at home while another third are Chinese language learners who do not speak Chinese at home. Yet, every day, they show me how eager they are to acquire a second language when they are at school.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
We try to incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have them to grow and learn together each day!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. I have noticed amazing differences in the classes in which their students are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
I hope to help my students get more engaged in their independent work and increase their stamina. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them multiple seating options to make more effective learning choices. The Bouncy Bands and Wobble seats will allow students to sit at tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The Jack Floor Chairs, Lap Desks will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
The Book Bags and Pen Holders will help my students to keep their supplies together while they are working at different spots in the classroom.
I can't wait to see how choice can positively affect my students' work and believe that this will be a very powerful tool in their growth and learning.
