My students need a floor ideal for physical activity since there is no gym! The foam tiles and knee pads will help avoid injury and enable the class criteria to expand dramatically.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is a brand new bilingual charter high school in Mott Haven, South Bronx, with the vast majority of students from Spanish speaking families and countries. A great many of these students are immigrants, both new and familiar to the country, some whom have arrived only weeks ago. Students are selected from a lottery to attend both the middle school and high school, and are extremely bright, most earning biliteracy on their dipolomas.
These students and neighborhood are accustomed to lack of resources and support from all sides.
Yet, despite societal obstacles, their intelligence, personality, and determination define them as exceptional scholars.
My Project
What is Physical Education, Dance, and Yoga class (for credit) without a floor? Great question for the students at the brand new AD High School in the South Bronx, New York City. We are in a temporary location for several years, and are supplying all students, already with no official school sport teams, gymnasium, locker rooms, cheerleaders, nor practice space outside, with physical education in an empty classroom with a hard floor.
Linoleum floors can wreak havoc on the body, causing joint pain, jamming, and shin splints if used for physical activity.
For the safety of the students, and to deepen their physical education, a cushioned floor is essential. A solution is to obtain foam puzzle piece squares, to create a portable, lightweight, affordable floor option that can be reused for years to come. Classical, Modern, Hip Hop, Yoga, and Circuit Training are all a part of students' credited curriculum at ADHS, and many simple actions, such as planks, high knees, downward facing dog, inversions, and even sit-ups, are all subject to put students' bodies at risk for injury on such a hard floor. The foam puzzle pieces would quickly fix this problem, providing cushion for impact and impact absorption. Please, help make a difference in a special school, where students deserve the best and receive the least. Think back to your old high school days, and how important your gym, basketball courts, tracks, fields, and grounds were to high school culture. For those students who wish to pursue a sport in college or dance in the future, a solid foundation is needed, starting from the ground up.
