I am the librarian at a Title I school and many of my students are below grade level with their reading. It is a struggle to balance the needs of all learners. We have around 160 students who are at a 3rd grade reading level and below. Some of our students who are low level learners also are struggling during this time with their families with food. We have several students who participate in our Backpack Buddies program. This program provides snacks and canned food items once a week to that child. During this time of need, many students count on our school breakfast and lunches and some parents lost their jobs already due to Covid-19.
By providing a donation to this DonorsChoose.org project , our school can help those students in need during this time and make sure they are continuously getting snacks and breakfast items while we do not see them everyday.
Every year at Christmas time, our school has an Angel Tree, in which low income students are asked what they want for Christmas. These same students are the ones we are trying to get snacks for during this time when school is out. I thank you!
My Project
These snacks will be distributed to students who are from low income families. When students arrive late or don't eat, these snacks come in handy. The water will be used during this time since our water fountains are out of commission. The band aids will always be used because middle schoolers are always in need of them! Science classes are in need of a digital format for their magazine and we can't wait to share this link with the students! The digital magazine will also be used for distance learners as well.
