"What does this say... how do you spell... I just don't understand... can I do this differently?" These are some of the comments I hear amongst students with Dyslexia. They are my students with special needs in my language arts classroom.
What are the tools and interventions my students need, that will help them to become engaged in the reading/writing task and to feel successful?
My sixth and eighth graders work very hard; some going the extra mile to do well in school. They want to do well and yet need support to be able to read, write, spell, and communicate with the world around them.
My Project
This year I have a diverse classroom of students with special needs; all of which have challenges in reading and writing. Some of my students need to use a computer due to weakness in penmanship and legibility in writing. My class size has grown. We use technology daily. My students use devices to publish stories, listen to digital versions of novels, and create projects. Now we just simply do not have enough devices to go around.
Although our class size has grown, our classroom technology has not!
My goal is to have enough Chromebooks in my classroom so that every child can access information independently. Those students with writing challenges will find greater success using a Chromebook to write their essays. With individual Chromebooks, my students will be able to gain access to a variety of online tools and resources such as Google Classroom, Learning Ally, Reading A-Z, Scholastic News, and SO much more!
