Our community is experiencing a high level of poverty. Students are homeless and struggling in school. I coach a pee wee and kindergarten first grade team of cheerleaders. These girls are so invested in cheering. Being part of a team and working on skill together has a amazing positive impact on their school skills.
These girls practice day and night from November till April.
Every week they run in and what to show us how their tumbling skills are coming along.
My Project
I am a cheer coach from children age 3-5 and for kindergarten and first graders. We need some mats to help the girls practice tumbling safely. These mats will not only help the girls be safe but also the adults. A cheese wedge ( also known as a tumbling wedge ) is gymnastics and cheerleading inclined mat that is shaped like a triangular slice of cheese. It is a vital tool for helping practice tumbling skills that can otherwise be much more challenging.
This is the safest way for students to learn tumbling skills and there is no risk for the adult who is spotting.
We use this incline to practice the forward roll, back handsprings, back bend walkovers and cartwheels.
You practice the roll by standing at the top facing down the incline and then putting their hands down and rolling forwards with an adult’s supervision. The incline helps to align your child’s body in the correct position and encourages a forward motion making the forward roll much easier to learn and master.
This mat is great for cheerleaders practicing their tumbling skills.
