Give a Kid a Kindle, Watch Them Reach Their Goals!
My students need access to technology in order to practice the skills required to succeed. These tablets will enable all students the opportunity to work with engaging programs throughout the day to reach their personal goals.
My class chose the name TEAM ALOHA this year to represent the spirit of our group. Our name was chosen by my students because of the influence that I brought into my classroom from my upbringing in Hawaii. In Hawaii we learn kindness, empathy, respect and humility as attributes to the 'spirit of aloha'. Which is exactly the kind of spirit that you can feel in my classroom.
TEAM ALOHA is more like a family than a class, and it is witnessed in the way we care for one another and push each other to succeed everyday.
The kids in my classroom have been with me for almost 2 school years now and will be going on 3 years, come next school year. My connection to this group of kids is greater than any other class that I have taught because I was able to loop with them from 2nd grade to 3rd and soon into 4th.
These young learners are fortunate enough to go to a school that is not Title one, but because of that our classroom is not funded the way a Title 1 school would be.
My Project
We currently have 27 students who share 1 iPad, 1 student computer and 1 teacher computer (yes, I share my computer with the class). This limited access to technology has made it extremely difficult to allow students to sign into any online reading or math program regularly.
Our class needs a set of Kindle Fire tablets to help bridge the gap we have with technology in our school.
With this set of tablets, my students will be able to access all online academic programs and required school supplements. Students will also be able to access the internet for research and read through the extensive selection of Kindle eBooks.
Students growing up in this day and age need to be given the tools to allow them to live up to their potential. Most schools are not equipped with the technology to provide the individualized practice for all students. The Kindle Fire tablets that I am hoping to attain for my class will benefit my current students as well as any student who steps foot in my classroom for years to come.
