My students need equipment bags to get the Girls' Softball Team started on a successful season.

My Students

Our poor coach looks pretty silly carting the softball equipment in his shopping cart. The girls' team really needs some equipment bags. It would give them a positive attitude toward the upcoming season. They would feel more like a team and have confidence in their game performance.

The girls' team is made up of 7th and 8th graders.

We are a Title 1 school and are in a lower middle class neighborhood. The girls who play are not from other leagues or teams. This is usually their first introduction to the team sport of softball. It is their only chance to learn and enjoy a sport that they could learn to love and continue playing into high school and adulthood. It gives them a chance to work together for a goal and dedicate themselves to a strong work ethic that can help them in years to come. Their team is an extension of our student body and our neighborhood. It may be the parents and friends only chance to see these girls succeed in sports.

My Project

Walking onto a field with these bags will give the girls that extra burst of confidence they need. They don't have to feel like the underdog before the game even starts. Regardless of skill level they can walk onto that field knowing they are winners. Feeling good about themselves gives them the confidence they need to win.

Every one of these girls has to supply most of their own uniform and their own mitt.

Many have trouble coming up with the funds to do just that much. These bags will tell the girls someone cares and wants them to succeed...not only in softball but in life.
