Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students come to class with a chance to be creative innovators. They have the opportunity to explore real-world techniques for design and production. This is STEAM at its finest! This project will make our new and improved MAKERspace a reality.
My students are 6th grade kids from all walks of life.
They are still gaining ideas about who they are and where they want to go in life. This project will provide them the opportunity to explore their desires to be modern day inventors, innovators, and designers. Providing them with the tools used in modern design and manufacturing can influence them to take a risk and be creative thinkers.
My Project
Students will learn robotics and prototyping skills. Kids are motivated by high tech gadgets and devices, they enjoy using them. The chance to use these tools and the robotic kits, we already have, is a huge motivator to learn about robotics, one of the more difficult skills in the design world. Through this project, they are empowered to design and create models which are constrained only by their imaginations. Using the Robotics we already have, they will be able to program their robotic creature, design their creature, and showcase their masterpiece in action. With cardboard comes the need to cut and shape their creatures, these cutters will make their job that much easier. With glue, paint, tape, and eyes, they can turn their idea into something realistic! Adding final touches will give them ownership.
This project will bring my classroom into the 21st century.
We will be providing students with positive, design-oriented, STEAM experiences and opportunities. The project may bring about our next great innovator or inventor. If it doesn't inspire them to be an engineering professional, it will definitely give them the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics practice that it was designed to offer.
