Help me give my students a meaningful hands-on math experience this school year by providing them with a geometry set and density cube for a tangible experience.
My students live in a high crime area of Las Vegas, they have been exposed to many difficulties such as poverty, violence, and food insecurity. Since the beginning of the lockdown, the issues they face have amplified. many of my students' families are still under the impacts of the pandemic. Their socio-economic situation made them even more vulnerable to the effects of this global crisis.
We want to support them by providing the best education possible to give them hope for better opportunities.
My Project
This school year I want to offer as many hands-on activities as possible. After a year of virtual and tumultuous learning, I intend to tackle handwriting and manipulatives to enhance learning. Graph paper notebooks for math and tactile learning tools (geometry set) will reach visual and kinesthetic learners.
I want my students handwrite their notes and to learn to use the geometry set to make sense of angles and shapes.
Making connections between math and science. The density cube set will allow my students to observe the density of different materials and apply math to calculate density with precision.
My students are considered "at-risk" and will truly benefit from differentiated teaching strategies and group work. I want them to connect and collaborate.
