My Students

School libraries help prepare students for college, career, and life. Our media center provides a multitude of books that reaches hundreds of students; I believe that school libraries should also provide access to high-end tools and resources for our students. This makes learning opportunities more equitable across schools.

As our school's media coordinator, I get to help hundreds of students fuel their passions through books, technology, and hands-on activities.

Our students are readers, makers, engineers, designers, artists, scientists, and inventors. Several years ago, I became a SciGirls leader. This helped me design more STEM activities with our girls in mind. Then three years ago, we had the unique opportunity to start an Imagination Chapter at our school. This program helps students develop their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Since then, we have created a makerspace in our library which our students absolutely love. I would like to add more robots and technology so that our students improve their coding skills.

We appreciate your help as we build a library for the future!

My Project

My fifth grade students get to choose what club they want to be in during specials class on Fridays.

Last week I counted the students in my STEAM club; I had twenty boys and only four girls!

I would like to do more to encourage our female students in the areas of STEM and STEAM. These resources have been chosen with girls in mind.

This butterfly drone, a Parrot drone, and a Botley robot will help our students improve their coding skills. Coding introduces girls (and boys) to problem solving, computational thinking, debugging, engineering, scientific methods, engineering, and more.

My girls have shown a great interest in fabrics and art. I'd like to introduce them to the LilyPad Kit Starter Learning Sewable Electronics Kit. This uses Arduino technology that they will program. The Circuit Scribe kit will allow them to create circuits that include art. It includes a pen with conductive ink.

Finally, I'm requesting the Women of NASA LEGO set. One of my younger students asked me to get girl hair for our LEGO minifigures. She pointed out that we did not have any. I found some girl LEGO hair, but this set will show our girls that they truly can be anything they want, including astronauts and scientists.

Thank you for helping us encourage girls to enter the fields of STEAM. I expect that with these new resources, more girls will want to join our STEAM club!
