Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever felt like the world was against you? Nothing good was ever going to happen to you? You weren't worth anything? I know students who need to be reminded that they set their futures and can overcome anything with self determination. My campus is a firm believer that we teach the whole child. We teach beyond academics and the textbooks to help students grown into future leaders who are kind, compassionate and socially ready to take on the world.
I teach a high school leadership class that helps out students feel confident in themselves by strengthening their talents and working with their peers.
I teach the "middle of the road" students how to become prepared for high school and college. In my class, I am in need of motivational videos that will show these ladies how so many people have risen above their situations to become amazing members of our society. These girls need to know that they have the potential to soar when they discover their self determination like so many in these books.
My Project
Working with all girls can have its own rewards and challenages. Beyond learning academic content, girls in our society today need to learn to trust their insitinct and abilities to accomplish whatever they desire in their future. Many girls need a boost in self-confidence.
These books will serve as a resource to open up discussions in small groups that will focus on building self-confidence.
The books listed are either examples of how to overcome situations or examples of strong women who overcame obstacles.
Inspiration. Motivation. Success. Those are the words I want my students to not only know but to feel within themselves. Hearing stories of others' failures and successes can spark something inside of us that makes us what to change. Please help show these students that their dreams are possible with hard work and dedication.
