Gimmie a Break... A Brain Break!

Help me give my students flexible seating desks and yoga ball chair, water color paints, giant jenga, and various materials to support students social, emotional, and mental health.

My Project

I am humbly requesting resources to support my students’ social, emotional, and mental well-being as well as mitigate the impacts of interrupted learning as a result of COVID-19.

Having these various materials such as giant jenga, watercolor paints/paper, and sensory stickers, lap desks, and yoga ball chair will allow students to practice mindfulness in their school day through guided brain breaks and flexible seating.

This is vital to student success because short brain breaks during work time have been shown to have real benefits such as stress and anxiety reduction along with decreasing frustration levels. Brain breaks can also help kids focus and be more productive while helping students to self-regulate and be more aware of when they're getting fed up or losing track of what they're doing.

To address the issue of mitigating the impacts of interrupted learning as a result of COVID-19, I am requesting materials such as a microphone and headphones to actively engage students in their learning through creating and publishing live podcasts. Students will be able to take what they have learned in the classroom and through a creative lens, bring it to life via podcast.

Finally, I am using binders and pencil pouches as a way to help organize students daily classroom lives. Being organized is a vital skill not only in school but in the real world as well. Having these materials will help teach students how to prioritize activities, set goals, and reduce stress.
