Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fourth graders in a special education, self-contained classroom. I work with students who have various disabilities and all of them are from low-income households. Most of my students come from families where English is their second language and most of their parents don't speak English. Even though my students are fourth graders, the majority are reading at a first grade level. Even with all of these challenges, my students still come to school each day, eager to learn!
My Project
In my class full of mostly struggling readers, I also have students who are reading above the rest of the class. While I use a lot of my focus on the struggling readers, I also want to be able to help my gifted readers. I have found that I do not have enough books at their levels and they have been getting bored. Getting new books would motivate them to continue reading even though they are ahead of the other students. Although they can read with accuracy, they lack a little in their comprehension skills. These educational reading games would be a fun way to encourage them to strengthen their skills. My students would be so excited and grateful to get new books. Please consider helping my students get new books.
