Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a poor section of New York City in the Bronx. They almost all qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. The fifth grade students in this class are in an inclusion class made up of general and special education students with various needs. My students love to learn and try very hard. We need help to give them the tools they need to be successful in learning during this time.
Our school closed over a weekend with no notice so most of their basic supplies were left behind at school.
I want to be able to help.
My Project
I would like to provide each student with basic supplies such as pencils, notebooks, highlighters, and more plus a few fun extras such as sunglasses and special markers to help make this transition a little easier for them. Most of my students come from low-income households and lack the money to buy even the most basic of school supplies.
The supplies they had for this year were left behind during the school closure and many parents can't afford to go out and buy more right now.
It is my hope that by getting this project funded that they will all be able to have the supplies they need to get through the rest of the school year while distance learning.
