Our students come to school every day (with 98.4% attendance) in a diverse, low-income, urban community. They are 68% Asian, 14% African-American, 11% Latino, 6% Caucasian, and 1% multiracial.
Our school community supports the whole student, academically, physically and emotionally.
By meeting the needs of our students on many levels, we help them to find success in school and in their community. It is a collective effort to help each of our students become the best people they can be. We try to create a foundation that they will take with them through their education and beyond.
My Project
We are an urban school community, with a small playground tailored mostly to the younger students. I would like to provide our intermediate and older students (even the younger ones) with games to keep them engaged and entertained.
Who wouldn't love to play or watch giant sized chess, checkers, tower building, and dice games?
These games will engage players and cheering crowds alike. Providing these activities gives our older students a sense that we care about them and want them to have fun at recess, too. Because all of the games are portable, they can be played when the sun is out or when rain or snow keeps students inside.
These games will be available to all students, not just my 7th and 8th graders, which is an added bonus to this project. I can't wait to see students working together and supporting one another on a giant scale!
