I teach three different Project Lead the Way Courses: Introduction to Engineering Design, Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Engineering Design and Development.
Students enjoy hands-on learning.
They are excited and eager to learn! Each year, our engineering program continues to grow. Next year, we will have over 70 students enrolled in the Introduction to Engineering Design course. We hope to sustain this growth in order to expose more students to the endless possibilities a STEM career offers and to explore trade options as well.
Our engineering lab is about 5-6 years old. The monitors are starting to show their age. Upgrading our monitors will provide students with a wider viewing experience as they CAD model.
I am MOST excited about establishing loaner laptops for my students.
We run Autodesk Inventor, a 3D CAD modeling software that requires i7 processor/16GB Ram/updated graphics card. Many of my students do not have access to that kind of technology at home. The laptops listed will allow me to create a more equitable environment for my students. Those who can stay after and work in the lab can stay. Students who do not have transportation home nor do they have computer access, can take a laptop, mouse, and computer bag home with them to complete their assignments.
The Solve for Tomorrow Prize package will allow me to set up our Goddard Fab Lab, with Laser Cutter, various power tools, additional 3D printers, and 3D scanner. Lastly, the desperately needed consumable classroom supplies will be greatly appreciated.
