My students need modern software to write, arrange, and develop their own music. With Sibeilus 7 the can explore their own musical interests and truly become composers.
Every student has a song to sing. The students in my choir program are writing and arranging their own music all the time with little to no resources to help them succeed. Providing them with music software will open a thousand doors for them and let the world hear what they have to offer.
Our school has an incredibly talented student body.
Our band and choir programs are very successful despite severe lack of funding. It's time for us to offer the next step for our students and allow them to write/arrange their own music. My classroom is constantly full of students tinkering on pianos, forming A Cappella groups and trying to create their own musical identity. Unfortunately we don't have a single room in the school devoted to music technology. The students are writing music by ear and arranging songs off of iPods. What they want and deserve is a chance to notate their songs, hear them played back and start becoming real composers.
My Project
With Sibelius 7 as a resource for my students they will begin to understand their full potential as composers, arrangers and creators of music - not just as performers. The software will be set up in a room we are trying to build as a recording studio for the school. This is the first step into vastly changing the culture of music/technology funding in our school. Once students can demonstrate their abilities to create music we can persuade administrators to start offering music technology classes and perhaps music theory classes. Right now our student's only opportunities for engaging and learning about music are through performance based classes and their own private instruction. Providing Sibelius 7 will give students a chance to interact and learn about music in completely different and exciting mediums.
Donations to this project will be the first step in drastically changing the music program at our school and potentially the district.
