Help me give my students a loving and fun environment to learn! Next school year, our class theme is "monster," as we dissect through literature how peer pressure can make us into what we fear most.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 7th and 8th graders who live in the heart of Central Phoenix and attend a Title One School. My school campus is full of a beautifully diverse and rich population. Most students are first generation U.S. citizens and continually impress me with their ability to rise above their challenges.
My students are deeply passionate and global minded citizens; they see the world through such a unique lens of social justice.
They are fiercely loyal, driven, and capable beyond their own realization. Many students find themselves growing up in neighborhoods that do not lend themselves towards safety and security; yet, they continue to dream and grow. They have an awareness, one that most adults fail to obtain, that your circumstances do not define you.
I am honored and humbled to call myself their supporter. We have laughed, cried, and maybe even learned a thing or two. I look at my students with wonder and pride as they will be my future and the future of the world.
My Project
Next school year, our class theme will be "monster." Students will dissect through literature some of humanities greatest failures and moving moments of victory. My goal is to provide students with a fun and interactive classroom that correlates with the literature and novel studies we will be doing. The class will explore how peer pressure, mob mentality, and fear can make us into someone we are not. We will learn what it truly means to be a good and moral person by examining characters who fell short, or who surpassed their own expectations of success in incredibly ways. "Monster" will not only engage and entice my students...but just maybe, teach them a little bit about what it means to be a good person, productive citizen, and most importantly, to stand up for what you believe in.
