Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children are challenged by the state of Texas to experience the research process at early as kindergarten. One of the projects for second graders focus on famous Americans. It is a challenge to find biographies written on a second grade reading level, and I have found some which are attached.
My students do not have resources outside of school.
Our neighborhood local public library was closed. Parents count on our school to provide their children with all of the resources they will need to succeed.
Entitled is not a word I would use to describe our students. They feel much gratitude for all that they receive. They would be very appreciative for new materials for their projects and assignments.
Our students are well behaved and respectful. They have an desire to learn and grow, and they have a hopeful outlook about education being the path that will lead them to a place where they will have choices about what they want to do with their lives.
My Project
What better way to help our youngest Americans to achieve their goals than to study America's historical citizens and their contributions to our society! The easy biographies that I am requesting will fulfill the necessary resources for our 7 and 8 year old boys and girls to complete a research project about a famous American. Many will dress up as this character to present their project to their class.
Think back to your childhood.
Was there an event that marks your time and place in your memory? I still remember where I was when a President Kennedy was shot, where I was when I saw Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on TV, and I still remember where I was on September 11, 2001. This project will enable our youngest students to experience these moments through a research project about famous Americans. Each child will be challenged to love our country and the sacrifices of our leaders.
