My Students

My students are a diverse mix of 9th - 12th graders who are eager, energetic and excited for the opportunities that lie ahead of them. They each have their own unique personalities and dreams, but they all share a common goal of wanting to prepare themselves academically and personally for education after high school. My job is to not only help them succeed in high school, but to help prepare and set them up for success in college and life after high school as well.

My Project

Today's students are growing up in a world of ever-changing technology. Despite the fact that nearly every student has been using computers since they were toddlers, very few have ever seen what the "inside" of one looks like. Most devices come pre-assembled, ready to go out of the box, which means that most students aren't able to learn about how they work by assembling and building them. Although there has been a big push to incorporate computer programming in the classroom, I believe that the hardware aspect of technology has been overlooked. It is essential in today's world that students are comfortable working with both hardware and software applications.

These Kits provide the students with the opportunity to tinker and code like never before.

All of these components are designed for use with the Raspberry Pi, which is an inexpensive microcomputer that the students can program and customize. These kits allow the students to put together different hardware combinations and customize their functionality through programming. The sky is the limit for what they can create. There is a huge Raspberry Pi "community" that shares project ideas and provides feedback on new concepts. These Kits will allow my students to start exploring and expressing their tech-creativity like never before, while learning invaluable skills and lessons along the way.
