Getting Their Hands Dirty for Nutrition and Environment
My students need the aquaculture system and analyzer to fully appreciate the agricultural curriculum. My students will also be aware of their nutrition and environment.
Did anyone ever tell you "Seeing is Believing"? Agricultural Education is built around hands-on learning but my students do not have the needed materials to put their knowledge to work!
My students are from a small rural community, in middle Georgia.
They are mostly from low income families and are on free or reduced lunch. They are not exposed to new or currently trending activities. Being green and learning efficient living is very important. The agriculture industry plays a large role in our community but students do not get to experience this field until they reach high school. Excitement ran high when they first heard we would be able to have an agriculture course! My students have only been exposed to agriculture through the school's FFA chapter. As their adviser, I have been able to watch them live the FFA motto: Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve.
Many of the students I teach are very visual, hands-on learners and now they need YOU to help them learn in a well-rounded agricultural program!
My Project
I want to give my students the opportunity to do something they wouldn't normally be able to do! By getting the desk top aquaculture tanks my students will get to experience an industry many of them have never even heard of: aquaculture! They will gain experience with aquaculture equipment and be able to raise aquatic plants and animals. They will also be able to test the soil in our gardens, greenhouse, and the aquaculture projects with the electronic soil tester. The students will get immediate results on test.
During these projects, they will not just be growing living things. They will be growing collaborative skills, leadership skills, and plans for a better future!
A student's early interest in this program will help open their eyes to the world of agriculture! There are so many careers and opportunities they will be exposed to.
These projects can build driven, self-confident students!
During these projects, they will not just be growing living things for their nutrition but will also learn about environmentally friendly activities.
They are the ones taking over this planet once we leave, and they must learn efficient ways to live. They will be growing collaborative skills, leadership skills, and plans for a better future! Interest in this program will help open their eyes to the world of agriculture! There are so many careers and opportunities they will be exposed to.
