I have a wonderful class of 25 energetic third graders. All of my students speak English as their second language and I have the privilege of working with each and teaching them how to use English in their everyday lives. Each of my students are eager to learn, explore and discover. They are a hard working group of young learners who put in great effort into all that they do. I have been adamant as an educator about creating a community in my classroom where students feel safe and secure in their learning. We have created this community outside of the classroom as well, working with other grade levels, both younger and older students, teaching them how to work cooperatively together. My students are inquisitive young individuals who want to learn, want to explore and want to be active and engaged in their learning. We do not have the support we need to meet the needs of each of these students and are working tirelessly to ensure their academic experience and both rewarding and meaningful.
My Project
Each student in my classroom comes to me speaking English as their second language or with no English at all. This computer cart, along with the chromebooks, will help my students by giving each of them support in learning English through instruction and technology. We will use the computer cart to keep any and all electronics we have locked away in the classroom. The Cart will work as a closet in our classroom. We will use the cart to keep the Chromebooks we have also requested in other projects, locked away in a safe and secure way until students are ready to use them. The hope is that along with the cart, we obtain chromebooks to help with mathematical concepts, Literacy concepts and science and social studies applications. This cart will hold the chromebooks and other technologies that will allow my students to access programs they need for support and additional resources for exploration and active participation in academics.
Not only will my students benefit from the computer cart for our electronics, but we plan to share with the 2nd grade and 4th grade sheltered ELL classroom to ensure those students are receiving the support and resources they need to be active participants in their own education.
