Currently, I teach in the South Bronx to students who come from poor neighborhoods. I love how my kids might have the deck stacked up against them but still try their best. Their personalities make them special. A lot of them want to achieve more but can not afford the materials to help them. My students get excited about seeing technology and using it to further their education. When using the calculators in class my students have taught me neat tricks to help them in their work.
My Project
My students will be taking the math regents starting June 12, 2018. These materials will help students graph equations, do mathematical calculations and analyze data. My students come from a low socioeconomic background. Most of them have never seen a graphing calculator until they entered this school. We need enough calculators to make sure that all students have access to them when taking their exams.
The donations from this project will allow my students to have a fighting chance on doing well on their exams and going further in their math career.
Our goal is to offer our students AP Statistics in the Fall. With the calculators, students will be able to analyze statistics.
