This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each of my students is unique in personality, behavior and learning styles, the majority of my students are from low-income families that live in high poverty neighborhoods. My students face many challenges in school, at home and often in their communities. Although I can not control what happens outside of school, I can have a great influence on their learning experience while in school. Teaching in an inclusive classroom, I am given the opportunity to work with general education and special education students.
Each student has different needs, interest, and desires.
My students will create their own destiny.
When my students enter my classroom in the fall, I want them to feel as though it’s their (our) classroom. I would like to create and sustain a safe, positive and developmentally appropriate environment for all students. My goal is to implement individualized learning and to help my students exceed the expectations that they set for themselves by the end of the year.
My Project
The resources in this project will help us create a productive classroom that provides differentiated activities that meet students where they are. Most of these kits on this list will be used at the teacher-led table during our small-group instruction. For example, the High-Interest Reading Folders will be used to support struggling readers through engaging lessons. The Read, Note & Respond journals teach students how to notes. The Giant Magnetic Graph Chart will be used to model lessons to the whole class.
I want to meet students on their level.
My classroom is filled with students that have different reading and math levels, as well as different interest. These manipulatives and resources will serve as hand-on tools to help students retain all the information provided to them during the lesson.
The document camera will allow me to model the activity in the lesson on the board, so that students are able to understand the steps in real-time.
