The students that I work with are second graders at a school in Petersburg, Virginia. Despite attending a Title I school that serves free breakfast and lunch to all students, my students are still hungry. Don't fret, they're not hungry for food. They're hungry to read! My students strive for excellence and knowledge regardless of what obstacles they face in our inner city. They're curious and eager to learn and read more and more each day. Some have never left the city of Petersburg and can only dream of what life elsewhere is like.
With your generosity, I'm anxious to help my 20 second grade students of diverse cultures, varied reading abilities and economically challenged backgrounds dream bigger and better dreams!
I truly believe in my students and the power that reading has to take you places. Please assist me in supporting my goal of providing the opportunity for success, growth and achievement in each and every student in my class.
Thank you for allowing me to share and your support in this mission.
Despite the crime and violence going on in their community, my students come to school each day to focus on learning and getting their education. With that being said, it is unfortunate that the technology equipment in our classroom is not in good condition, and always causes problems when students attempt to use them.
Students are constantly struggling with missing keys on the keyboard or sound issues from the old broken computers in our classroom.
We need a Samsung tablet to provide newer technology to practice reading skills.
This results in lots of wasted time and frustration when they could be getting their instruction from the lessons they are supposed to get online daily. Tablets will allow students to have access to tons of online resources to meet their needs in the classroom.
